Upright meaning
The figure lies face down with ten swords in his back, which even the tarot concedes is more swords than the situation required. The Ten of Swords is capitulation with theatrical staging: the final flush, the last bull's public surrender, the sell-off that continues past every rational target because endings, like markets, overshoot. Note two details the drama obscures: the sky behind the body is already lightening, and there are no more swords. The worst has completed itself. Completion is this card's strange gift — nothing rebuilds on a maybe.
